Spabeautyschools.com Featured School of the Week April 30, 2007: Vogue Beauty College

13 Oct

If becoming a makeup artist, beauty salon owner or beauty image consultant has seemingly been a dream too far from reach, then allow Vogue Beauty College to turn your dreams into reality! With eight campuses located throughout Texas and New Mexico, Vogue Beauty College offers six certification programs, including comprehensive courses in cosmetology, manicuring, and skin care. Its full 1,500-hour course in cosmetology includes haircutting and styling, shampooing/hair-scalp treatments, hair coloring and highlighting, chemical hair relaxing and perming, facial treatments, hair removal/waxing, makeup application, manicuring and pedicuring, artificial nails, and salon management.

Vogue Beauty College owner, Charles Oman stressed the significance of targeting training prior to licensure, which sets the school apart from others. “Most school programs take the full 1,500 hours before the written exam; we think it’s important to get the state written exam behind (students) after 1,000 training hours, so they can concentrate on their career. The last 500 hours are dedicated to giving students prolonged skills to go directly into the job market.”

Gaining practical training in a clinical setting, students enrolled in Vogue Beauty College’s cosmetology program must qualify in three of the six certification programs to become fully certified cosmetologists. “Vogue Beauty College far exceeds any accreditation requirements because we’ve spent 15 years developing these specialties,” explains Oman. “We do extra work, so the student can become certified.”

Vogue Beauty College’s 600-hour course in manicuring involves hands-on training in basic manicure and pedicure, application of artificial nails (fiberglass nails, gel nails, tips and wraps), hand and arm massage, paraffin treatments, oil manicure, French manicure, stain removal, repair work, and salon management.

The skin care/esthetician program entails 750 course hours with an in-depth curriculum in anatomy and physiology, facial treatments, facial massage, makeup application, color psychology, hair removal/waxing, aromatherapy, microdermabrasion, extractions, eye tabbing/eyebrow and eyelash tinting, client care, chemistry, client care, salon management, and other related studies.

Licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations as a private school, Vogue Beauty College participates in the Sallie Mae Loan program, as well as in-house scholarships and long-term financing options.

When asked if “anyone” can enroll, Oman explained “Not just anyone…but we will work with and accept students who demonstrate a strong desire to become professionals.” Additionally, he adds, “We not only give onsite tours, we encourage students to spend some time on campus to get a feel for the environment before applying.”

As an added incentive, Vogue Beauty College boasts its career services through a 40-hour job-ready training program, full and part-time studies (both evenings and days), and convenient Spanish and English programs. As a vital contributor to humanitarian efforts, Vogue Beauty College proudly participates in the Lost Children Program, whereby all income earned on May 25 is donated to this critical fund.

SpaBeautySchools.com recognizes Vogue Beauty College and applauds its quality standards in cosmetology and esthetics training.

Bikini Waxing – Bikini & Brazilian Waxing 101

13 Oct

The bikini and Brazilian wax are more popular than ever. Here we will look at the advantages of doing both and you will see why the Bikini and Brazilian wax are so popular.

While some women may still avoid bikini waxing, opting instead for the tried and tested razor, many more are taking the plunge and going all the way with the Brazilian wax.

Bikini waxing traditionally, removes only the hair that is visible around the bikini area. Brazilian waxing is a method of hair removal that removes all of the hair from the genital region.

Not for the feint hearted, Brazilian waxing is a trend that has grown in popularity for both men and women.

While bikini waxing remains popular, a Brazilian wax is undoubtedly the best way to achieve a smooth, sensual clean look and feel around the bikini area.

Bikini Waxing

Regular bikini waxing involves the application of warm wax to the area around the bikini line. A strip of cloth is pressed on top and then immediately ripped off against the direction of the hair growth.

Brazilian Waxing what it entails

Brazilian waxing focuses on the genital area and involves the removal of hair from the areas around the vagina, perineum and anus.

The entire genital area is covered with talcum powder before hot oil is applied and the hair removed.

As with bikini waxing, the hair is removed by pressing a strip of cloth on top of the oil and then ripping it off against the direction of the hair growth.

Contrary to popular belief, Brazilian waxing does not necessarily involve complete hair removal. Some people choose to leave a ‘landing strip’, a line of hair above the vagina.

Different beauty therapists may use slightly different approaches. Some may use a strip of cloth as is used in regular waxing, while others may use just the hot wax, which as it cools, shrink wraps the hairs and pulls them from the roots.

Any stray hairs are removed with a pair of tweezers.

Brazilian Waxing – What to Expect

Having a Brazilian wax will involve you adopting various positions that you may find a bit embarrassing!

Expect to contort your body, be on all fours, hold your legs up in the air, to the side, over the therapist’s shoulder and anywhere necessary in order for wax to be applied and hair removed.

For a Brazilian wax, your pubic hair is required to be about a quarter inch in length and so it may be necessary for your therapist to trim it down to this length.

After all the hair has been removed a soothing lotion is applied to the area.

What Are the Advantages of Brazilian Waxing?

Lasts between ten days and three weeks

You feel clean, shiny and smooth

Your partner may find it erotic

Enhances intercourse

What are the Disadvantages of Brazilian Waxing?

The only real disadvantage is the pain but this lessens with subsequent Brazilian waxing and most people think it’s worth it.

Where to get a Brazilian Wax

If you are a wax virgin it may be an idea to start with a regular bikini wax first before graduating to the Brazilian wax and in all cases this is a treatment that you should definitely have done by a professional.

Is it Worth it?

For most people Brazilian waxing provides a long lasting sensual feeling that is definitely worth 15 minutes of discomfort (and embarrassment!) and can be enjoyed by both you and your partner.

Should I trust a local beauty school for waxing/haircuts/dye?

13 Oct

I know this is a pretty good school, and it is run by a local community college, but I was wondering if I would be putting much risk into it. They offer cheap services so that students can practice, but these aren’t new students. Do you think it would be too much of a risk to do the whole haircut/dye thing at this beauty school? Any opinions?

you have to check out their student:teacher ratio. if the ratio is too low, forget it.
i’ve tried the my local student services at a well known hairdressing school for rebonding plus cut. it turned out well, but the time i spent there was like 3 times the time i would have spent at their normal salon with a senior stylist. just my haircut took 1 and a half hours… can you believe it?
