Firstly you will need to determine where you will be wearing your outfit. As we said earlier a rental costume used for a Halloween party at the bar will be different than a rental costume geared towards a play on Broadway or even an Indie Film.
After choosing your place of wear, you will choose the luxuriousness of your outfit. You’ll need to note that the more “life like” a costume is, the more money it will be to rent. A costume made from 200 year old metal isn’t going to be cheap.
A prospective costume renter should consider what the cost would be to purchase a costume before they decide on a final rental. Purchasing a costume may be a better idea than renting a costume. Two months of filming can add up to a lot of rental fees, and this money could be spent on a full costume purchase.
Determining the length of time you will be wearing your costume is the first step in determining your rent or buy decision. Then determine the price you will pay in rental fees. After this you can go ahead and search online to see if it would be cheaper just to buy a costume. For instance a roman armor costume that costs 50 dollars a day to rent will end up costing you fifteen hundred dollars in just one month. Buying this same costume would end up costing you only 500. Selling the armor afterwards will make your costs even lower.
Lastly, when making a rental, be sure you have a full understanding of what the return policies are. You may find that you have to get it cleaned which will easily increase the cost of your rental. Some companies will not make you get your costume washed or will do this process for you for a small price. Keep in mind that when you rent a superior costume like roman soldier armor, you will have a hard time cleaning it afterwards.
